You rarely expect your vehicle to break down, but that's why it's important to keep a roadside emergency kit in your car even if you have roadside assistance. Expect the unexpected!

These are some of the items you should always have in your car:

  1. First-aid kit: Keep it stocked with a few different kinds of bandages, gauze pads, antiseptic ointment, aspirin, and any other items that are specific to you and your family.
  2. Tire gauge: Use this to check your spare tire periodically so you don't end up trying to change a flat tire only to find that your spare is flat as well.
  3. Jumper cables: These ought to be coated in eight-gauge rubber and at least ten feet long.
  4. Reflective warning triangles: Keep at least three of these and place them 50 feet apart to warn oncoming traffic.
  5. Duct tape: Always have at least ten feet of this on you. You never know what you might need it for.
